ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday discussed security arrangements for the planned second round of Islamabad Talks with acting U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker during a meeting in the federal capital.

According to the Interior Ministry, Naqvi visited the US Embassy in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave, where both sides also exchanged views on the regional situation and ways to promote Pakistan-US relations.

The minister briefed Baker on the security plan for the upcoming talks, saying that special arrangements had been made for all foreign delegates and guests expected to attend the high-level negotiations.

Naqvi also expressed hope for the success of the second round of talks, which are expected to bring together US and Iranian representatives in Islamabad following the first round held earlier this month.

The acting US ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s sincere role in helping reduce regional tensions and acknowledged its efforts in facilitating dialogue, the ministry said.

Senior officials, including the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency, Dr Usman Anwar; the Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Sohail Ashraf; the Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi; and the Deputy Commissioner, Irfan Memon, were also present at the meeting.

Security in Islamabad has been tightened ahead of the expected arrival of foreign delegations, with the Red Zone closed for traffic and alternate routes announced for residents.

The first round of direct US-Iran talks, hosted in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, ended without an agreement but remained open for further negotiations.
