ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully concluded its second nationwide anti-polio campaign of 2026, vaccinating more than 44.7 million children nationwide, the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) said on Monday.&nbsp;According to the EOC, the campaign was carried out with the support of thousands of frontline polio workers who ensured access to vaccination for children in both urban and remote areas.&nbsp;To further strengthen children&rsquo;s immunity, Vitamin A supplements were also administered alongside the oral&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/pakistan-to-vaccinate-over-45m-children-in-antipolio-campaign" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">polio vaccine</a>&nbsp;during the campaign.&nbsp;Punjab recorded the highest number of vaccinations, with around 23.03 million children immunized, followed by Sindh with over 10.4 million and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with more than 7.15 million.&nbsp;In Balochistan, over 2.62 million children received polio drops, while more than 441,000 children were vaccinated in Islamabad. Gilgit-Baltistan recorded over 292,000 vaccinations, while approximately 717,000 children were immunized in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;The EOC said the active support of parents and local communities played a key role in the campaign&rsquo;s success and appreciated the timely cooperation of security agencies in ensuring smooth operations.&nbsp;It also thanked all partners and stakeholders for their contribution to the successful completion of the national polio drive.

Pakistan vaccinates over 44.7 million children in nationwide polio campaign

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan security forces killed two terrorists, including a wanted ring leader and a suicide bomber, during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu District, the military&rsquo;s media wing said on Monday. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on April 19 after reports about the presence of terrorists belonging to what it described as the <a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/security-forces-kill-34-terrorists-in-kp-and-balochistan-operations-army" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">Indian-sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij</a>. During an intense exchange of fire, security forces killed the ring leader, Waheedullah alias Mukhtiar, along with a suicide bomber. The military said a suicide jacket, weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed terrorists. Waheedullah was on the most-wanted list for his involvement in several terrorist attacks, including the killing of security personnel and civilians. ISPR said he was also the main handler of the suicide bomber involved in the February 21 attack in Bannu that led to the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz. The military described the latest operation as revenge for the &ldquo;heinous act&rdquo; and said the main perpetrator had been brought to justice. It added that the timely action by security forces averted a major catastrophe. A sanitization operation is underway to clear the area of any remaining terrorists. The military said Pakistan&rsquo;s security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counter-terrorism operations under the &ldquo;Azm-e-Istehkam&rdquo; campaign to eliminate what it called foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

PARIS: Billionaire Elon Musk has been summoned for a voluntary interview in Paris on Monday as part of a French probe into his social media platform X, though it remains unclear if he will appear. French authorities issued a summons for Musk in February as part of an investigation, launched in January 2025, into allegations that X&#39;s algorithm was used to interfere in French politics. The probe was later expanded to include an investigation into X&#39;s AI chatbot Grok&#39;s dissemination of Holocaust denials and sexual deepfakes. In early February, French prosecutors searched the Paris offices of X, in what the social media giant &mdash; which has denied any wrongdoing &mdash; slammed as &quot;politicized&quot; raids and an &quot;abusive judicial act.&quot; At the time, Paris prosecutors also summoned Musk and then-CEO Linda Yaccarino for voluntary interviews as the &quot;de facto and de jure managers of the X platform at the time of the events,&quot; a move Musk called a &quot;political attack.&quot; Yaccarino resigned as CEO of X in July last year after two years at the helm of the company. In February, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said X employees had also been summoned to appear between April 20 and 24 &quot;to be heard as witnesses.&quot; But whether or not those invited for voluntary questioning appear would not be &quot;an obstacle to the continuation of the investigation,&quot; the Paris prosecutor&#39;s office said on Saturday.
