ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt have concluded a joint military exercise focused on counterterrorism operations, according to the military’s media wing.


In an official statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the two-week exercise, named Thunder-II, was conducted at Cherat, Pakistan.


It aimed to improve the “interoperability” between the two armies by “refining drills, procedures and techniques” related to counterterrorism operations through joint training.


Combat teams from the Special Services Group of the Pakistan Army and the Egyptian Special Forces participated in the exercise. According to the statement, they demonstrated “professionalism” and “operational skill throughout” the exercise.


The General Officer Commanding of the Special Services Group attended the closing ceremony as chief guest. Commander of Egyptian Paratroopers Major General Mohamed Saad Abdel Razik and the Egyptian defense attaché also witnessed the even.


The exercise further strengthened longstanding military-to-military relations between Pakistan and Egypt, the military’s media wing stated.
