ISLAMABAD: &nbsp;Indian activist Gurjeet Singh Khalsa has been continuing his protest atop a mobile tower in Samana (Indian Punjab), where he has been stationed since Oct. 12, 2024, demanding the implementation of an anti-sacrilege law in Punjab, according to Indian media.&nbsp; The protest has come under media spotlight as the Legislative Assembly (Punjab Vidhan Sabha) prepares to deliberate on the proposed anti-sacrilege law,&nbsp;Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill, 2026.&nbsp; The bill seeks to introduce strict penalties for acts of sacrilege against the Guru Granth Sahib, including imprisonment ranging from a minimum of 10 years to life, along with hefty fines and potential confiscation of property. Call for implementation of law&nbsp; Indian media outlet quoted the activist as saying, he would continue his protest atop the tower until the anti-sacrilege law is implemented.&nbsp; &ldquo;I have full faith in my Guru. Even last month, when Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, along with MLAs Inderbir Singh Nijjar and Chetan Singh Jouramajra, visited the protest site to persuade me to end the protest, I had made it clear that the Assembly and the Bill have no value until the government ensures the law is implemented,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp; Although the speaker had assured him that he would return with the draft of the bill after the Assembly session, Khalsa rejected the assurances. &ldquo;I am neither a politician nor a leader. My fight is against religious bias and for a stricter law against sacrilege,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I am ready to continue this protest for days, months, or even years. I am in no hurry and remain in charhdi kala (high spirits),&rdquo; he added. The proposed bill also seeks to impose fines ranging from 0.5 million INR to 2.5 million INR on those found guilty of sacrilegious acts, along with provisions for confiscation of property of the accused.&nbsp; It broadens the definition of desecration to include spoken or written words, signs, or any visible representation, including electronic content, that hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs.

Samuel Rodriguez and evangelical leader Rev. Johnnie Moore, called on New Delhi not just to defer but to withdraw the bill, which was introduced on March 25.&nbsp;The bill, <a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/india-could-seize-catholic-church-assets-under-sweeping-new-law" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">tabled in the Lok Sabha</a>, India&#39;s lower house of parliament, seeks to amend the existing law governing how Indian organisations receive and use funding from abroad.&nbsp;According to the report, the leaders said the legislation would empower authorities to seize assets built by charities if their foreign funding registration lapses or is cancelled, even due to procedural delays.&nbsp;They argued that Christian organizations in India have long contributed to social welfare, including building schools, hospitals and orphanages, particularly for underprivileged communities.&nbsp;The letter warned that donors from countries including the United States could pursue legal action if their contributions were subjected to seizure, stressing that funds were meant to support the poor, &ldquo;not to subsidise the Indian state.&rdquo;&nbsp;The leaders also urged India to ensure fair and reciprocal treatment for faith-based organizations, noting that Indian groups operate freely in the United States.&nbsp;They called for dialogue with Christian communities before any further steps on the legislation. ISLAMABAD: India&#39;s federal government would gain the power to take control of Catholic and other minority institutions&#39; property, funds, and assets under a new bill that the country&#39;s Catholic bishops have condemned as unconstitutional and a threat to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/execution-video-exposes-how-manipur-became-indias-invisible-conflict-zone" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">religious freedom</a>. According to a press release issued by the Catholic Bishops&#39; Conference of India (the apex body representing the country&#39;s Roman Catholic clergy) on Friday, the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill poses a direct threat to constitutionally <a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/indian-gujarats-uniform-civil-code-sparks-minority-rights-concerns" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">protected minority</a> freedoms. The bill, tabled in the Lok Sabha, India&#39;s lower house of parliament, seeks to amend the existing law that governs how Indian organizations receive and use funding from abroad. Provisions allowing the government to assume control of foreign funds and assets when an organization&#39;s registration lapses are &quot;undemocratic, unconstitutional, and contrary to the principles of natural justice,&quot; the statement noted. The Conference urged the Indian government to &ldquo;withdraw all contentious provisions&rdquo; and ensure &ldquo;the constitutional rights of all citizens,&rdquo; particularly religious minorities, remain intact. Rising violence against Christians Reports from the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch show violence, legal restrictions, and discrimination against <a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/antichristian-hate-speech-in-india-surges-41-in-2025-report" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">Christians in Indi</a>a have increased over the past two decades. The United Christian Forum recorded more than 745 incidents of persecution in 2024, averaging over two per day. The Indian government has applied the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act to freeze bank accounts and revoke licenses of thousands of Christian-linked NGOs, limiting their social and charitable programs. Father Stan Swamy, an 83-year-old Jesuit priest, died in custody in 2021 after arrest on counter-terrorism charges, cited by Amnesty as an example of state action against minority advocates. Systemic discrimination persists Christians continue to face systemic discrimination. Dalit Christians are excluded from &quot;Scheduled Caste&quot; status, denying them government jobs and education quotas. UN and Human Rights Watch reports document police inaction or complicity in crimes against Christians, which critics say encourages attacks by extremist groups.

ISLAMABAD: A Muslim passenger was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals over his religious identity while travelling on an express train in India, in an incident that has renewed attention on attacks against Muslims in public places. According to the Kashmir Media Service and Indian media reports, the incident occurred on the Manmad-Kakinada-Shirdi Express, an intercity passenger train, when it stopped at Hafeezpet railway station in Hyderabad, India&#39;s southern city. The victim, identified as Hafiz Mohammad Imran, was travelling to Maharashtra when the alleged attack took place. Imran told the police that an argument was already underway inside the coach between some passengers. He said he approached the group to ask why another passenger was being beaten, after which the situation escalated. In a video statement that surfaced on social media on Feb. 11, Imran is seen recounting the incident to police officials. He alleged that he was forcibly pulled aside and assaulted by around 20 people. Following the incident, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen raised concerns over the alleged assault and called for strict action against those responsible. The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns on public transport, particularly incidents involving allegations of identity-based violence.

Drawing a comparison with other nations, he said that developed and prosperous countries were serious about removing infiltrators, whereas in India, courts were being approached to save them. Quoting Modi, Indian media reported him as saying that those advocating for infiltrators were &ldquo;snatching away the rights of my country&rsquo;s youth, taking away their livelihoods, snatching away the land of the tribals&rdquo; and creating dangers for the lives of &ldquo;our sons and daughters.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;Special Intensive Revision dispute&nbsp;Modi further criticized TMC leaders, saying they spoke on many issues but failed to acknowledge their own shortcomings.&nbsp; He said people in West Bengal were suffering and accused the state government of approaching courts to protect infiltrators because it only cared about power.&nbsp;The remarks came a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee argued in person before the Chief Justice of India, taking the Special Intensive Revision dispute to the country&rsquo;s highest court.
