ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza are facing serious health risks after heavy weekend rainfall caused sewage to inundate temporary shelters, an aid agency has warned. In a report published last week, Save the Children said more than 13,000 families have been affected by the flooding, leaving children sleeping without proper cover, drenched in contaminated water while wearing only summer clothing. The territory&rsquo;s sanitation infrastructure, already weakened by two years of Israeli bombardment, cannot cope with rainfall. Many children lack footwear or alternative garments. Shelter cluster data indicates roughly 700,000 children, over two-thirds of Gaza&rsquo;s young population, face similar risks, living in structures significantly degraded over 24 months of bombardment and repeated displacement. Aid delivery hampered by restrictions Although 19,000 tents and 276,000 tarpaulins have entered Gaza since a peace agreement four weeks ago, Israeli authorities continue to block construction materials, including timber and tools, citing potential military use. The shelter cluster reports that more than 63,400 tents, 803,600 tarpaulins, and 278,000 bedding kits remain at crossing points awaiting clearance. Without repair equipment, families cannot restore damaged shelters. With over four-fifths of structures affected by bombardment, residents continue living in whatever tent remnants survive, stitching together fabric scraps and blankets to cover gaps.&nbsp; Fear of unexploded munitions, responsible for previous child deaths, and potential new strikes deter many from returning home. Even as market availability of some items has improved, essential winter supplies, including blankets, mattresses, and fresh clothing, remain scarce. Children are left in shorts and T-shirts despite dropping temperatures, while families prioritize food with limited resources. Combined with existing malnutrition and illness, cold weather poses a serious threat to vulnerable children. Gaza&rsquo;s Government Media Office reports that at least 14 children, including newborns, have died from hypothermia over the past two winters. Save the Children&rsquo;s regional director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe described the situation: &ldquo;Children and families have woken up submerged in sewage water. For the third winter now since the start of intense Israeli bombardment in October 2023, they are desperate not just for a lasting ceasefire but for secure, safe, and warm places to sleep.&rdquo; He added that the makeshift shelters, reduced to fragments of material, &ldquo;cannot protect occupants from harsh weather or prevent disease.&rdquo; &ldquo;We have already seen at least 14 children die due to hypothermia over the past two winters,&rdquo; he said. The charity also reported that it has been unable to bring its own stockpiles into Gaza since March, with materials continuing to wait at border crossings blockaded by Israel.

JOHANNESBURG: South Africa said Monday the surprise arrival of 153 Palestinians on a plane last week indicated &quot;a clear agenda to cleanse Palestinians&quot; out of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The group landed in Johannesburg on a chartered flight on Thursday without departure stamps from Israel in their passports. Reports said a shadowy organisation named Al-Majd was involved in their travel from Gaza. &quot;We are suspicious, as the South African government, about the circumstances surrounding the arrival of the plane,&quot; Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola told reporters. South African border police kept the group on the plane for 12 hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa allowed them entry on a standard 90-day visa exemption. It emerged later that a first plane carrying 176 Palestinians had arrived on October 28, according to the local Gift of the Givers charity that is assisting the arrivals. &quot;We do not want any further flights to come our way because this is a clear agenda to cleanse out Palestinians out of Gaza and the West Bank and those areas, which South Africa is against,&quot; Lamola said. &quot;It does look like it represents a broader agenda to remove Palestinians from Palestine into many different parts of the world, and is a clearly orchestrated operation,&quot; he said. &#39;Misled&#39; South Africa, which is set to host world leaders at the G20 summit this weekend, is seen as one of the strongest supporters of the Palestinian cause. ISTANBUL: Gaza&#39;s future must be Palestinian-led and avoid any new system of tutelage, Turkey and six of its top Muslim allies said Monday after talks in Istanbul. Turkey, which played a central role in forging the now shaky three-week-old ceasefire, is pushing for Muslim nations to bring their influence to bear on the reconstruction of the embattled territory. &quot;Our principle is that Palestinians should govern the Palestinians and ensure their own security, the international community should support this in the best possible way -- diplomatically, institutionally and economically,&quot; Turkey&#39;s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said after the talks. &quot;Nobody wants to see a new system of tutelage emerge,&quot; he told a news conference. Brokered by US President Donald Trump, the October 10 ceasefire -- which halted two years of continuous bloodshed -- has been tested by fresh Israeli strikes and claims of Palestinian attacks on Israeli soldiers. Basal, later on Wednesday, said, &ldquo;At least 30 killed and dozens of wounded as a result of the Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, and our crews are still working to recover the dead and wounded from under the rubble.&rdquo;&nbsp; Israel&rsquo;s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, earlier said that Hamas had attacked Israeli troops despite the ongoing ceasefire, vowing that the group would &ldquo;pay a heavy price.&rdquo; &ldquo;Hamas will pay a heavy price for attacking IDF soldiers in Gaza and for violating the agreement to return the bodies of the hostages,&rdquo; Katz said in a statement. &ldquo;This is a crossing of a red line, and the IDF will respond with great force.&rdquo; Before the strikes, Prime Minister Netanyahu had instructed the military to conduct &ldquo;intense strikes&rdquo; in Gaza, accusing Hamas of breaking the US-brokered ceasefire. However, Hamas rejected the allegations, saying its forces had not carried out any attack on Israeli troops. &ldquo;Hamas affirms that it has no connection to the shooting incident in Rafah and reaffirms its commitment to the ceasefire agreement,&rdquo; the group said in a statement.

The report states, &ldquo;Tata&rsquo;s emergence as a cornerstone of Indian capitalism is deeply entangled with colonial power and imperial war economies.&rdquo; &ldquo;Through its subsidiary, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL), it is a core global provider of wings for all new F-16 fighter jets and fuselages for all AH-64 Apache attack helicopters&mdash;the primary aircraft used by the Israeli Air Force to bombard Gaza,&rdquo; the extensively referenced report says. Critical command systems &nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;Through its partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), TASL manufactures the critical command systems for the Barak-8 missile, a weapon actively deployed by the Israeli Navy,&rdquo; the report highlights. The report says, &ldquo;Tata Motors, via its subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover, supplies the foundational chassis for the MDT David light armored vehicle, a ubiquitous tool of the Israeli military used for patrols, raids, and the violent suppression of protests in the occupied West Bank.&rdquo; Reputation laundering and sports washing&nbsp;To shield these operations, the report says, &ldquo;the Tata Group has meticulously cultivated a global image of corporate benevolence, leveraging its philanthropic trusts and a significant US presence.&rdquo; &ldquo;This strategy of reputation laundering culminates in its title sponsorship of the New York City Marathon, a textbook case of sportswashing designed to mask its role in profiting from genocide.&rdquo; Tata-Lockheed Martin joint venture&nbsp;According to the report, &ldquo;the joint venture Tata-Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited (TLMAL) is a core global provider of wings for all new Fighting Falcon fighter jets. The F-16 is a supersonic, multirole tactical fighter that has been the workhorse and backbone of the Israeli Air Force (IAF) for over four decades.&rdquo; &ldquo;The aircraft has been central to nearly every major Israeli military operation since the 1980s. IAF F-16s have played a major role in Israel&rsquo;s ongoing genocide115 in Gaza, carrying out thousands of airstrikes,&rdquo; it adds. India&rsquo;s complicity in genocide in Gaza&nbsp;&ldquo;During the ongoing genocide in Gaza, India&rsquo;s complicity has become overt,&rdquo; says the report. &ldquo;The government has abstained on UN resolutions calling for a truce and an arms embargo, while Indian corporations have reportedly exported Hermes 900 drones back to Israel, a fact made clear in May 2024 when a ship from Chennai carrying 27 tons of munitions for the Israeli military was blocked in Spain (these drones are partially manufactured in India to lower costs, through joint ventures with Israeli firms),&rdquo; the report highlights. Moreover, according to the report, &ldquo;the Indian state has sent thousands of migrant workers to replace Palestinian labor.&rdquo; &ldquo;During the genocide in Gaza, the Indian government has sent over 20,000 migrant workers to Israel to replace the Palestinian labor force whose work permits were canceled,&rdquo; according to the report. Diaspora lobbyist groupsThe report points out: &ldquo;This alliance is further supported by diaspora lobbyist groups in the US, like the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), which emulate Zionist organizations such as AIPAC to build political support.&rdquo; &ldquo;Under the current right-wing government of Narendra Modi, this longstanding affinity has materialized into a strategic state partnership,&rdquo; it adds. &lsquo;Israel model&rsquo;&nbsp;This is most evident in India&rsquo;s colonial occupation of Kashmir, where the &ldquo;Israel model&rdquo; is being explicitly replicated through new land laws that facilitate settlement by mainland Indians in &ldquo;Israeli-like&rdquo; guarded, Hindu-only enclaves. India and Israel -- explicit parallels&nbsp;&nbsp;The explicit parallels between the two states were made brutally clear after the Pahalgam incident in April 2025, the report says. It further points out: &ldquo;Framing the attacks as &ldquo;India&rsquo;s October 7th,&rdquo; prominent Indian figures made public calls for an &ldquo;Israel like&rdquo; response against Kashmiris, urging the state to replicate Israel&rsquo;s genocidal war on Gaza.&rdquo; Highlighting the alliance between Israel and India, the report states: &ldquo;When the Indian military later launched &ldquo;Operation Sindoor&rdquo; against Pakistani civilian targets using Israeli weapons, the Israeli government was the first and only foreign government to enthusiastically express its support.&rdquo; Shared ideology of ethno-racial supremacy&nbsp;&ldquo;This shared rhetoric and mutual affirmation of violence demonstrates that the material relationship rests on a deep, shared ideology of violent anti-Muslim racism, ethno-racial supremacy and settler-colonial entitlement to land,&rdquo; the report underlines.
