The United Nations said Tuesday that more than 100,000 people had been newly displaced within Lebanon in just 24 hours amid the war raging in the Middle East.


"As of today, more than 667,000 people in Lebanon have now registered on the (Lebanese) government's online platform as displaced -- and this is an increase of 100,000 in just one day," said Karolina Lindholm Billing, the UN refugee agency's representative in Lebanon.


"That's a faster pace of displacement compared to 2024," she told reporters in Geneva, speaking from Beirut.


European stocks rebound after Trump's war remarks

European stock markets rebounded on Tuesday as energy prices eased after US President Donald Trump signalled that the US-Israel war on Iran could end sooner than expected.


Frankfurt's DAX index of top German companies jumped 2.1 percent, the Paris CAC 40 rose 1.7 percent and London's FTSE 100 advanced 1.4 percent.


World oil prices dropped by around eight percent and European natural gas prices plunged after Trump said the war was "going to be ended soon".

Sirens sounded in Jerusalem on Tuesday after Israel's military warned of incoming missiles from Iran, AFP journalists reported.

The warning came as the US-Israeli war against Iran entered its 11th day, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Israel was "not done yet" with its military campaign.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel's military offensive against Iran was "not done yet", saying the operation was degrading Iran's clerical leadership.


"Our aspiration is to bring the Iranian people to cast off the yoke of tyranny; ultimately, it depends on them. But there is no doubt that with the actions taken so far, we are breaking their bones -- and we are not done yet," Netanyahu said during a visit to the National Health Command Centre, according to a statement published Tuesday.

Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Tuesday that Iraq should not be used as a launch pad for attacks in the Middle East war.


Sudani stressed in a phone call with Rubio "the importance of ensuring that Iraqi airspace, territory, and waters are not used for any military action targeting neighbouring countries or the region," the prime minister's media office said.


Sudani rejected "any attempt to drag the country into ongoing conflicts," as well as "violations of its airspace by any party."

Egypt raised domestic fuel prices by up to 30 percent on Tuesday, blaming "exceptional" global energy pressures caused by the Middle East war, which has disrupted oil supplies and shipping routes.


The increases, announced by the petroleum ministry, apply to gasoline, diesel and natural gas used in vehicles.


"This comes in light of the exceptional situation resulting from the geopolitical developments in the Middle East region and their direct impacts on the global energy markets," the ministry said in a statement.


Ankara says Patriot defenses deployed after latest Iran missile

Turkey said Tuesday a Patriot missile defense system was being deployed in the country's centre, a day after NATO intercepted a second ballistic missile fired from Iran in Turkish airspace.


"A Patriot system assigned to support the protection of our airspace is being deployed in Malatya," said a defence ministry statement. The area is known as the location of the Kurecik air base, which houses a NATO early-warning radar system that can detect Iranian missile launches.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday they targeted a US base in Iraq's Kurdistan region as the war with the United States and Israel continues.


"The headquarters of the invading US army in Al-Harir Air Base in the Kurdistan region was targeted with five missiles," the Guards said in a statement on their Telegram channel.

Iran's foreign minister said Tuesday that negotiations with US 'no longer on the agenda.'


Abbas Araghchi told US broadcaster PBS News his country was prepared to continue missile attacks for as long as necessary and ruled out talks after President Donald Trump said the war with Iran would be over "very soon".


Earlier, the foreign minister also called the war 'Epic Mistake', while showing the hike in oil prices around the world.


Syria accuses Hezbollah of firing shells into its territory

Syria said Hezbollah had fired artillery shells into its territory from Lebanon overnight, state media reported on Tuesday, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the group.


Syrian army officials said artillery shells fired from Lebanon landed near the town of Serghaya, west of Damascus, the state news agency SANA reported on Tuesday.


The army accused Hezbollah of targeting Syrian army positions, telling the news agency it observed Hezbollah reinforcements at the Syrian-Lebanese border.


"The Syrian Arab Army will not tolerate any aggression targeting Syria," the army said in a statement to SANA.

Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq sent a congratulatory cable Monday to Iran’s Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei after his selection as the Islamic Republic’s supreme leader.

Saudi military intercepts two more drones

The spokesperson for Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry has said that the country’s military has — a few minutes ago — intercepted two more drones towards the vast nation’s east.


This, less than three hours after Saudi Arabia’s defences had intercepted two other drones near Al-Kharj Governorate.


Hezbollah claims attacks on Israeli bases and barracks

The Lebanese armed group says it launched a missile attack on the Givaa drone control base, east of the Israeli city of Safed and fired rockets at the Yiftah barracks near the border in the early hours of this morning.


Hezbollah also said it carried out a drone attack on the Tziporit base east of Haifa on Monday morning and a missile attack on the Tel Hashomer base near Tel Aviv in the evening.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said that he telephoned Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to express his “solidarity with Qatar in the face of Iranian missile and drone attacks,” Al Jazeera reports


Carney said that he also thanked Qatar’s emir “for working to ensure the safety of Canadians in Qatar and working with Canada to secure transportation options for Canadians wishing to leave the country”.


Iran Guards say they 'will determine the end of the war'

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday they would "determine the end of the war" in the Middle East after US President Donald Trump said the conflict would end "soon".

Trump says Iran school strike 'being investigated' by US

The United States is investigating a deadly strike on a school in the opening days of the US-Israeli war on Iran, President Donald Trump said.


"That's being investigated right now," Trump said of the strike on an elementary school in the southern city of Minab, which Iran said killed more than 150 people.


"Whatever the report shows, I'm willing to live with that report," Trump said, adding he did not "know enough about" the strike while also suggesting Iran may have used a Tomahawk missile — a weapon it does not possess — to hit the school itself.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, after an incoming Iranian missile was intercepted in Turkey's airspace.


"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always declared its readiness to reduce tension in the region; provided that the airspace, soil and waters of our neighbours are not used to attack the Iranian people," Pezeshkian said in a statement about the call.


The missile was the second fired from Iran to be shot down in Turkish airspace in five days.


Iran targets Gulf energy installations as oil prices surge

Iran launched fresh strikes on energy installations in the Gulf on Monday, including a petroleum complex in Bahrain, as oil prices soared on fears over supply disruptions due to the Middle East war.


Bahrain's sprawling Al Ma'ameer oil facility was hit, causing a fire and damage, with the country's state-owned energy firm Bapco declaring force majeure – the latest Gulf producer to activate the legal clause.


Energy producers in Qatar and Kuwait earlier made similar declarations, which are a warning that events beyond their control may lead them to miss export targets.


Bapco said it "hereby serves notice of force majeure on its group operations which have been affected by the ongoing regional conflict in the Middle East and the recent attack on its refinery complex", according to a statement posted by the company.

Powerful explosion, jets heard overhead in Tehran: sources

AFP journalists reported a powerful explosion in the Iranian capital just after midnight local time on Tuesday at the same time as aircraft were heard overhead.


Several journalists dispersed across the city reported the blast, which was felt from many kilometres away.


They also reported several explosions in the east of the city shortly afterwards.


It was not immediately clear what had been hit.


Not long after the blasts, the Israeli military announced that "for the second time today" it had launched a "broad wave of strikes" on Tehran.
