ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said Tuesday that the country's leadership is not giving up on efforts to help the US and Iran negotiate.

"We would very much like to see if we can continue to pursue the dialogue," he said during an interview with the Associated Press on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. "We'll keep at it, and our leadership is at it."

Aurangzeb said the talks marked the first direct discussion between the two nations in nearly 50 years.

The finance minister said he also met this week with US officials, including Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, to discuss trade and finance concerns. He plans to meet Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday.

In a phone call with The New York Post, President Trump said Tuesday a second round of talks with Iran "could be happening over the next two days," indicating that the venue could be Islamabad.
