Indian Air Force loses contact with Su-30MKI fighter jet over Assam

ISLAMABAD: The Indian Air Force said Thursday it has lost contact with a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet that took off from the northeastern Indian state of Assam.


In a post on X, the air force said the aircraft departed at 7:42 pm local time (1412 GMT) but had not returned or established contact at the expected time.


“An Su-30 MKI fighter jet has not returned or made contact at its expected time after taking off from Assam at 7:42 pm,” the Indian Air Force said in the statement on X.


Officials did not immediately provide details about the number of personnel on board or the circumstances surrounding the loss of contact.


The Su-30MKI is a twin-engine multirole fighter that forms a key part of India’s air combat fleet. Further information about the aircraft’s status or possible search efforts was not immediately available.
