ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan on Tuesday banned women from engaging in heavy labor in Nuristan province, citing the need to prevent “harmful customs and immoral practices,” according to a statement issued by the Taliban’s Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, Muhajer Farahi, on X.
The statement said women in Nuristan are now prohibited from performing physically demanding work under the implementation of the 17th decree of the Taliban’s Supreme Leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada.
“In accordance with the implementation of the 17th decree of the Amir al-Mu’minin, heavy and arduous labor for women has been banned in Nuristan as part of efforts to prevent harmful customs and immoral practices,” it said.
Farahi added that the measures aim to “reform society, preserve Islamic values, and prevent harmful traditions.”
