ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, stressing the need for de-escalation amid evolving regional tensions.
“The two leaders discussed the evolving regional situation and ongoing developments,” the Foreign Office said in a statement on X.
FM Dar emphasized the need for de-escalation, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path for lasting peace. He also underscored the importance of an end to all attacks and hostilities.
Dar said Pakistan would continue to support all efforts aimed at restoring regional peace and stability.
The development comes shortly after Dar announced that Tehran had agreed to allow 20 additional Pakistani-flagged ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, with two vessels scheduled to transit daily.
The Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor, remains under close watch amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
PM briefs Iranian president on push for peace talks
On Saturday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held an extensive telephone conversation focused on ongoing hostilities in the region and peace efforts.
During the call, which lasted over an hour, the two leaders discussed the ongoing hostilities and the need for a coordinated push towards peace, the statement said.
“Held a detailed telephone conversation with my brother, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, earlier today, lasting over one hour,” the prime minister said on X.
