During an interaction with the media, a reporter said that the president was receiving credit from Democrats and Republicans for securing the peace deal in Gaza and asked him, &ldquo;Where do you think it fits into your legacy?&rdquo; The US president replied, &ldquo;This will be my eighth war that I&rsquo;ve solved. And I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said, I&rsquo;ll have to wait till I get back [to ease tensions between the two countries]. You know I&rsquo;m doing another one. Because I&rsquo;m good at solving wars. I&rsquo;m good at making peace, and it&rsquo;s an honor to do it. I save millions of lives. Millions of lives,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;In all fairness to the Nobel committee, it was for 2024 and this was picked for 2024. But there are those who say you can make an exception because a lot of things happened during 2025 that are done and complete and great. But I did this, not for Nobel; I did this for saving lives. We saved millions of lives. Think about India-Pakistan. Think about some of the wars that were going on for years. We had one going for 31, one going for 37 years, with millions of people being killed in every country, and I got everyone of those done, for the most part within a day. WASHINGTON: Tours at the Capitol have come to a standstill. The House is keeping its doors closed, while the Senate is stuck in a loop of failed votes on a rejected plan to reopen the government. President Donald Trump is threatening to mass fire federal workers and refuse back pay for the rest. As the government shutdown enters a second week, there&#39;s no discernible endgame in sight. &ldquo;You have to negotiate,&rdquo; Sen. Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont, argued late into the evening on the Senate floor. &ldquo;That&#39;s the way it works.&rdquo; But no negotiations, at least publicly, are underway. Shutdown grinds on, but signs of quiet talksThe Republicans, who hold a majority in Congress, believe they have the upper hand politically, as they fend off Democratic demands to quickly fund health insurance subsidies as part of any plan to end the shutdown. But so have Democrats dug in, convinced that Americans are on their side in the fight to prevent the looming health care price spikes and blaming Trump for the shutdown. Behind the scenes, though, signs of discomfort are apparent. Congress increased the federal subsidies that help people purchase private insurance policies on the Affordable Care Act exchanges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal aid was popular, and it boosted ACA enrollment to a record 24 million people. Those enhanced subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year. Republicans say Congress can deal with the health insurance issue in the months ahead.
