ISLAMABAD: Police are set to submit the charge sheet on Wednesday in the murder case of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the leader of cultural group Inqilab Mancho and July Uprising frontline fighter, 26 days after his killing, state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.&nbsp;Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed the development on Monday, saying the investigation has reached its final stage.&nbsp;&ldquo;The charge sheet in the murder of Sharif Osman bin Hadi will be submitted on Jan. 7, 2026,&rdquo; he said, adding that the case would be transferred to a speedy trial tribunal to ensure justice within the tenure of the interim government.&nbsp;Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam earlier confirmed the submission date, noting that the investigation was nearing completion.&nbsp;&ldquo;So far, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the killing, and six of them have given confessional statements under Section 164 of the CrPC,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;The arrested suspects include the alleged mastermind Faisal Karim Masud&rsquo;s father, Humayun Kabir, mother, Hasi Begum, wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia, brother-in-law, Wahid Ahmed Shipu; and his alleged girlfriend, Maria Akter Lima.&nbsp;Other arrestees are Md Kabir, Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, Sibion Dio, Sanjoy Chisim, Aminul Islam Raju, and Abdul Hannan.&nbsp;Police said the murder was premeditated and that the prime accused, Faisal Karim Masud, and his accomplice, Alamgir Sheikh,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/bangladesh-police-say-student-leaders-killers-fled-to-india" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">fled to India</a>&nbsp;following the attack.&nbsp;&ldquo;Faisal and another individual fled to India by crossing the border through Mymensingh,&rdquo; Nazrul Islam said.&nbsp;During the investigation, police recovered two foreign pistols, 52 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, fake number plates, and cheques amounting to Tk 218 crore linked to 53 bank accounts.&nbsp;DMP Detective Branch (DB) Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said several other individuals involved in the killing have been identified, though their names cannot yet be disclosed to protect the investigation. Based on current findings, police believe the murder was politically motivated.&nbsp;Hadi was shot around 2:20 pm on Dec. 12 while riding a motorcycle on Bijoynagar Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station, after conducting a campaign near Motijheel Mosque. Police said Faisal Karim Masud and an accomplice opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.&nbsp;Critically injured, Hadi was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore on Dec. 15 and died on Dec. 18 while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.&nbsp;His death sparked&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/violence-erupts-in-bangladesh-after-wounded-youth-leader-dies" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">nationwide protests</a>&nbsp;and widespread public outrage, with demonstrations held across Dhaka and other parts of the country demanding swift justice.&nbsp;Hadi&rsquo;s funeral prayers were held on December 20 at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Complex, drawing tens of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/tens-of-thousands-attend-funeral-of-killed-bangladesh-student-leader" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">thousands of mourners</a>. The chief adviser, members of the advisory council, and senior civil and military officials attended the funeral.&nbsp;He was later buried beside the Mausoleum of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the Dhaka University campus.&nbsp;Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancho, filed a case with Paltan Police Station on Dec. 14 on charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, and use of dangerous weapons.&nbsp;After Hadi&rsquo;s death, a Dhaka court ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case on Dec. 20.

ISLAMABAD: Bangladeshi activists and journalists have accused India of providing safe havens to terrorists involved in killings as Bangladesh once again erupts in protests after leader of 2024 student-led uprising Sharif Osman Bin Hadi succumbed to his injuries in Singapore. Hadi, who was expected to contest the February elections, was shot in the head on December 12 in Dhaka. He was evacuated to Singapore but could not survive. Pakistan TV talked to a number of journalists and civil society activists who agreed that anti-India sentiments had risen sharply in Bangladesh. Civil society activist and entrepreneur Fahim Mashroor told Pakistan TV that following Sheikh Hasina&rsquo;s ouster and the installation of Dr Muhammad Yunus&rsquo;s interim administration, relations between Dhaka and New Delhi have deteriorated sharply. &ldquo;For the last 15 months, right after Sheikh Hasina was ousted and the new administration under Dr Yunus took over, diplomatic relations have been extremely thorny. He said this perception of the Bangladeshi society is drawn from India&rsquo;s history of patronage toward Sheikh Hasina during her 15-year rule, when New Delhi was seen as supporting her authoritarian governance for strategic gain. Another journalist from Bangladesh Muktadir Rashid told Pakistan TV that the demonstrators accuse India of involvement in Hadi&rsquo;s assassination and harbouring suspects linked to unrest in Bangladesh. He said anti-India sentiment is not new, fuelled over the years by public anger toward Sheikh Hasina&rsquo;s government, which was backed by New Delhi. &ldquo;Anti-Indian sentiment is not new in Bangladesh at all, especially due to Sheikh Hasina&#39;s misrule, which was backed by the Indian government starting from 2014,&rdquo; he said. He said Hadi, a former teacher known for his calls for justice and youth empowerment, enjoyed strong grassroots popularity and was preparing to contest the upcoming elections. Muktadir Rashid said Hadi was shot last Friday, and reports suggest the prime suspect fled across the border into India, an area long associated with organised crime. His death has further ignited resentment against perceived Indian interference in Bangladesh&rsquo;s domestic politics, he added.
