ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said Friday that 297 Afghan Taliban fighters were killed and more than 450 injured in retaliatory military strikes across Afghanistan, as Information Minister Attaullah Tarar denounced the Kabul administration as an &ldquo;illegitimate regime&rdquo; following unprovoked attacks along the Pakistan&ndash;Afghanistan border. Speaking at a media briefing, Tarar said the action was carried out under Operation Ghazb lil Haq and involved precision air and ground strikes on 29 locations inside Afghanistan. The information minister said 89 Taliban check posts were destroyed, 18 captured and 135 tanks and armed vehicles eliminated during the operation. &ldquo;Unprovoked firing by the Afghan Taliban regime along the Pakistan&ndash;Afghanistan border is being and will continue to be responded to in a strong and effective manner,&rdquo; Tarar said. He described Pakistan&rsquo;s response as &ldquo;immediate and decisive,&rdquo; adding that Taliban fighters fled several positions, leaving behind weapons and bodies. The minister said the latest fighting further exposed what he called a direct nexus between the Afghan Taliban regime and terrorist networks targeting Pakistan. &ldquo;Afghan soil is being used for training, facilitation, and launching attacks that kill our civilians and security personnel,&rdquo; he said, referring to recent assaults on religious sites, judicial facilities, and Pakistani military officers. Tarar also launched a broad attack on the Taliban&rsquo;s governance, calling it &ldquo;a system based on repression and the perversion of religion.&rdquo; He quoted the government&rsquo;s position, saying, &ldquo;The activities of the Afghan Taliban regime and Fitna al-Khawarij against Pakistan are unacceptable.&rdquo; He accused the Kabul authorities of ruling without legitimacy, denying fundamental rights and enforcing discriminatory laws against women, children, and minorities. &ldquo;This regime has nothing to do with Islam,&rdquo; Tarar said. &ldquo;It has imposed oppression on its own people and exported terrorism across the border.&rdquo; Tarar said Pakistan&rsquo;s armed forces remain on full alert and prepared to respond to any further aggression. &ldquo;Pakistan knows very well how to defend itself,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Our response will remain strong, effective, and in defense of our sovereignty.&rdquo;

However, Islamabad has repeatedly <a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/pakistan-raises-concerns-over-indiaafghanistan-statement-rejects-afghan-ministers-remarks" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">expressed concern</a> that no effective measures were taken despite its cautions over rising cross-border terrorism. The 37th report of the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, issued on Feb. 4, endorsed Pakistan&rsquo;s position that Afghan territory continues to be used by terrorist groups to launch attacks. The report noted an <a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/un-warns-ttp-emerging-as-significant-regional-threat-from-afghan-soil" target="_blank" style="color:#0073e6;" rel="noopener noreferrer">increase in TTP attacks against Pakistan from Afghanistan</a>, leading to heightened regional tensions. It further stated that while the Afghan de facto authorities claimed no terrorist groups were operating inside the country, no UN member state supported this view. The report observed that the TTP was accorded greater operational freedom, resulting in a surge in attacks inside Pakistan. It also highlighted that Al Qaeda continued to benefit from patronage in Afghanistan and provided training and advisory support to militant groups, particularly the TTP. The group has been linked to many attacks, particularly in the latter half of 2025, contributing to heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier. Last week, at least 33 people were martyred and around 169 others injured in a suicide blast at Imambargah Khadijah al-Kubra during Friday prayers. Just this week, two police officers were martyred, and six others were injured in separate attacks in two districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan has taken firm steps to safeguard its national security, including targeted actions against militant hideouts and stricter border management measures. Officials maintain that durable peace in the region requires concrete action against terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil.

Speaking about India and its relations with regional countries, Dr Victor Zhikai Gao, who is vice president of Centre for China and Globalisation, Beijing, expressed concern over India&rsquo;s multiple territorial disputes with nearly all of its neighbours. &ldquo;India has volatile relations not only with China and Pakistan but with all its neighbours,&rdquo; he said, urging that the Indian government and people should exercise rationality, wisdom, and reason in resolving these disputes amicably, including with China. &ldquo;I would appeal on the Indian government and Indian people to use more rationality, and more reason and more wisdom in dealing with its neighbouring countries and come to amicable solutions of any or all territorial disputes with its multitude of neighbouring countries,&rdquo; he said. Dr Gao praised the China-Pakistan cooperation during the conflict, noting that the Pakistani military effectively used jointly produced equipment and Chinese-applied weapons systems.&nbsp; He called it a proven success story, demonstrating the strength of the bilateral partnership. He concluded by expressing hope that this cooperation will deepen and expand, ensuring no foreign power dares to challenge Pakistan again.&nbsp; &ldquo;This is a joint success, a victory for Pakistan as well as for China,&rdquo; he said, congratulating the Pakistani people and the Armed Forces.&nbsp; Dr Gao said such solidarity will contribute to greater peace, stability, and prosperity across South Asia.
