ISLAMABAD: India&rsquo;s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday expressed dismay over what she described as the &ldquo;latest blow&rdquo; against Muslims, following the discovery that thousands of &quot;waqf&quot; properties are missing from the government&#39;s newly-launched UMEED portal. A &quot;waqf&quot; property is an endowment made by a Muslim for charitable or religious purposes, such as to build mosques, schools, or hospitals. It cannot be sold, gifted, or inherited. The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs had launched the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995 (UMEED) Central Portal on June 6, according to an Indian media report. The portal allows real-time uploading, verification, and monitoring of Waqf properties, with a six-month completion window that ended on Dec. 6. Taking to X, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said the missing entries raised serious questions about the transparency and protection of waqf assets. Over 355,000 properties &lsquo;missing&rsquo;&nbsp;&ldquo;Over 3.55 lakh [0.355 million] Waqf properties are missing nationwide, with J&amp;K [Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir] alone losing 7,240 entries in the new UMEED database. Drop in Waqf properties&nbsp;The data reveals that Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir had 32,533 registered properties on December 9, 2024, which dropped to 25,293 by December 7 this year. Uttar Pradesh recorded the largest decrease, with Sunni Waqf properties falling from 217,161 to 86,345 during the same period. The All India Muslim Waqf Board has requested an extension from the government to register properties on the UMEED portal, according to the report. Controversial new act&nbsp;The new Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which came into force in April 2025 after heated debates in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, faced opposition from several parties and Muslim bodies. In September, the Supreme Court declined to suspend the act entirely but put on hold certain provisions, including empowering district collectors to determine property ownership and restricting the creation of waqf deeds to lawful Muslim property owners of at least five years&rsquo; standing, pending further judicial scrutiny. The PDP chief&rsquo;s concerns underscore rising anxiety over the management and safeguarding of waqf properties in India.

Muslim doctor&rsquo;s picture&nbsp;Earlier, an Indian news channel, News9 Live, had to apologize for wrongfully releasing a Muslim Kerala doctor&rsquo;s picture as a suspect in the November 10 Delhi blast. Although several news outlets carried the picture, only one channel aired an apology. An Indian fact-checking website, Alt News, reported that various Indian media outlets misidentified the accused, Dr Mohammad Arif, and shared the image of his namesake, who had no connection with the incident. Pakistan MoFA&rsquo;s statementOn media queries regarding recent wave of arbitrary arrests and detention of Kashmiri people from IIOJ&amp;K after bomb blast incident in New Delhi and on human rights situation in IIOJ&amp;K, Pakistan&rsquo;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Office of the Spokesperson) issued a statement on Friday. It said, &ldquo;Pakistan remains gravely concerned about the persistent and serious human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).&rdquo; &ldquo;The prevailing policies, marked by widespread detentions, arbitrary arrests, and extensive restrictions on fundamental freedoms, continue to amount to collective punishment of the occupied Kashmiri population,&rdquo; the statement said. &lsquo;Profiling Kashmiri youth&rsquo;Reports of profiling Kashmiri youth on the basis of their identity and faith further heighten these concerns, it said. The statement further said, &ldquo;Thousands of Kashmiri youth remain missing, while many genuine political representatives of the Kashmiri people remain in detention.&rdquo; &ldquo;Pakistan calls upon the international community including the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to take full cognizance of the grave human rights situation in IIOJK,&rdquo; it was urged.

The explosion happened while authorities were extracting samples from a large cache of explosives confiscated in the &ldquo;white-collar&rdquo; terror module case. &ldquo;Accidental blast. Any other speculation is unnecessary. NEW DELHI: Indian police have carried out sweeping raids targeting a banned political party in disputed Kashmir, days after the deadliest blast in the Indian capital for more than a decade. There has been no confirmation that the searches this week are connected to Monday&#39;s explosion, which killed at least 12 people near the historic Red Fort in the capital&#39;s Old Delhi quarter. &lsquo;Anti-national forces&rsquo;The raids represent a renewed effort by police to tighten security after the explosion, which the government called &quot;a heinous terror incident&quot; and blamed on &quot;anti-national forces.&quot; Many of the raids have taken place since Wednesday, according to district police statements from across Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Police in Awantipora, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Shopian, and Sopore districts issued statements about the raids, which they said targeted the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) party. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi&#39;s Hindu-nationalist government banned the Kashmir branch of Jamaat-e-Islami in 2019 as an &quot;unlawful association.&quot; &#39;Large-scale operations&#39;&nbsp;Officers carried out &quot;extensive raids at multiple locations&quot; to &quot;dismantle the terror ecosystem and its support structures&quot;, the police in Awantipora said in a statement. The department in Bandipora said they had seized &quot;incriminating material,&quot; while the Sopore police said it had carried out &quot;large-scale operations against JeI-linked networks&quot;, adding that more than 30 locations were searched. Officers also raided Al-Falah University in Faridabad, on the southern outskirts of the capital, while security forces on Friday demolished a house in Kashmir&#39;s Pulwama district. Police have not commented on the demolition, although law enforcement agencies have carried out such destruction against those accused of launching attacks in the past. India&#39;s anti-terrorism National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the probe into Monday&#39;s blast, and the government has vowed to bring the &quot;perpetrators, their collaborators, and their sponsors&quot; to justice. Little information&nbsp;But officials, so far, have given little further information on who that might be -- and whether it was a homegrown group or had links from abroad. Indian media have widely connected the Nov. 10 blast with a string of arrests just hours before, when they seized explosive materials and assault rifles. Police said those arrested were linked with Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind groups. Concerning those arrests, police said on Monday, shortly before the explosion, that their investigations had &quot;revealed a white-collar terror ecosystem, involving radicalised professionals and students in contact with foreign handlers, operating from Pakistan and other countries.&quot; The blast in Delhi was the most significant security incident since April 22, when 26 people were killed at the tourist site of Pahalgam in IIOJK, triggering clashes with Pakistan.
