ISLAMABAD: Pakistan defeated Hong Kong by 3-2 in the final of the 2025 IBSF Snooker World Cup Team Championship on Sunday, as Muhammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal came from 2-1 down to win the final, producing two important century breaks in the final frames.
Hong Kong's Chau Hon Man and Nansen Wan were unable to respond as Pakistan secured the title.
PM congratulates the team
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the team following their victory, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Offic, praising the duo for their skill and performance in the final.
"The Pakistani team showed exceptional ability to win the World Cup," he said, adding that this victory was a proud moment for the country.
He added that the win reflected the hard work and dedication of the players and would serve as an inspiration for other sportspersons in Pakistan.
Pakistan defeats India in semis
Pakistan reached the final after a 3-1 win over India in the semifinals. Muhammad Asif played a key role in leveling the match after Pakistan lost the first frame.
Asif produced a 77 break to equalize the tie at 1-1, and then controlled the doubles frame to give Pakistan a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth frame, Asif secured the deciding point with a 61 break, despite a strong challenge from Brijesh Damani of India.
Prize pool
The total prize pool for the Team Championship was $35,000, with the winning team receiving USD 14,000. The runners-up earned $7,000, and the semifinalists received $3,500 each.
The prize for the highest break was $1,000.
