RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s military on Tuesday accused India of reviving “fabricated and provocative propaganda” ahead of state elections in Bihar and West Bengal, warning that such rhetoric could jeopardize peace and stability in South Asia.

In a statement, the Pakistan military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said the Indian military leadership appeared to be issuing politically motivated remarks under pressure from the government.

It said the pattern of making unfounded claims before domestic elections reflected attempts to divert public attention from internal challenges.

‘Serious consequences’

The military’s media wing noted that such behavior from the leadership of a nuclear-armed country was “irresponsible” and risked triggering a cycle of jingoism. It warned that unnecessary posturing and inflammatory statements could have “serious consequences” for regional stability.

ISPR further said the Indian military and political leadership had struggled to reconcile with the outcome of Maarka-e-Haq, adding that repeated attempts to “rewrite history” through exaggerated narratives only undermined their own credibility.

Tensions between the two countries have remained high since the Maarka-e-Haq confrontation earlier this year, with both sides trading sharp statements over regional security and cross-border incidents.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, the ISPR said the armed forces and the nation remained fully prepared to defend the country’s territorial integrity and would respond decisively to any act of aggression.
